New Links Adds Sand-Trap at 'the 19th'

Published Aug 15, 2016

In this all-new golf facility, where modern materials and minimal maintenance are prevalent, arguably the best designed sand-trap on the course is at the approach to the 19th hole.

After 50+ years at it’s harbourside site, Peninsula Golf Club (or PGC) decided to take a Mulligan, when it won the right to redevelop its dilapidated links on Whangaparaoa Peninsula, and moved the course with upgraded facilities to farmland a little further back from the beach. In 2016, three years after consent was issued, the club president opened the new course and declared the move complete.

Arguably the biggest benefit for the revitalized club is an awesome new 2-tier clubhouse built on a hillside overlooking the new course. Designed by award-winning Whangarei architects Harris Butt, who are well respected for their ecologically rooted designs including the Waitangi Museum and Knoll Ridge Café on Mt Ruapehu, the clubhouse is the ideal interface for visiting golfers, and houses a café, pro-shop, offices, function rooms, and a luxurious members lounge.

According to the Architects, “the members wanted a very modern building constructed in materials which would endure with minimal maintenance.” And the secret to minimizing maintenance is maximising measures to counter dirt and moisture getting inside.

In other words, PGC needed to place a carefully crafted sand-trap at the approach to the 19th hole.

Harris Butt chose ExtraTread by Advance Flooring Systems as the clubhouses first line of defense against dirt and moisture. Although similar in profile to our bestselling CoralTread entrance matting systems, ExtraTread’s extra wide highly absorbent polyamide infills offer better anti-slip control, and up to 37% more moisture absorption over similar products.

Not only is ExtraTread a highly attractive and efficient choice, it’s easy to install and maintain. Assembled in interlocking strips, the ultra-low profile (10mm high) aluminium frame traps dirt in specially designed corrugated rails which can be swept clean with a broom.

The best part of all is that ExtraTread works quietly and efficiently on all footwear whenever anyone passes through the entrance, removing up to 86% of the dirt which might otherwise be trampled into the carpets inside. The end result is a cleaner and healthier environment, and a significantly lower cleaning bill.

ExtraTread is supplied in NZ by Advance Flooring Systems, who are a leading supplier of innovative commercial flooring and entrance matting systems throughout Australia and the Pacific.
